Preening Dandies (November Edition)

We trudge further into winter and the nerds continue to gather around warm fires to drybrush, highlight and curse the darkness. The month has brought us a small but pretty selection of models.

Native Bears(Song of Fur and Buttons)

This unusual entry comes in from Quozl. The models may look strange but their origin story is even odder. They're from the Song of Fur and Buttons. It's a sort of parent/child wargame which has its own bedtime storybook and several associated scenarios. One of the heroes is (brillantly) known as Sir Uppity Paws. So, it's all a mix of bizarre and cute. I'm sure someone will be along to accuse the maker of fostering imperialist views in the young of today.

Knight of Santiago (Infinity)
As reliable as the sunrise, Lowry sends in a Knight of Santiago from the the Pan-Oceania faction. This Infinity model shows the characteristic high level of detail that is becoming Corvus Belli's trademark. It hard to describe their quality until you see one in the flesh. I believe that the faction symbol on the right shoulder is entirely freehand. It may be the gloss or that shade of green, but I'm seeing it all as vaguely aquatic in style.

Foot Artillery (Napoleanic Wars)
Craftfeld sends in another historical entry. This unit of foot artillery are Perry Miniatures and finished in what seems to be a French style. I'll leave it to the experts to inform me whether it's some variant British uniform. The base is of his own design and is made from a beermat and his love for terrain-building. I suspect that he's using real-life materials here, especially in the case of the log towards the back of the base.

Fallschirmjager Artillery (Flames of War)
Nosediver often states that the key to 15mm painting is the proficient use of washes. We can see his philosophy at work here with the artillery pieces looking very very crisp. The old style FJ models seem to have a lot more character than their Heer counterparts and I'm curious as to whether the helmet style makes the figures look better. He's also made better use of the Army Painter foliage than I've managed, with the flowers on the artillery bases looking very life-like.

Sd Kfz 251/1 C (Flames of War)

And finally, my own offering. Some hastily painted German halftracks which served in the infamous Battles of Maynooth. Their record wasn't fantastic but they're being reinforced, regardless. The camera has been rather kind to my colour scheme here and they're looking pretty. The downside is that I've just noticed the missing rear MG on #222. Balls.

We'll be doing another roundup at the start of January so get your works into prd@onthestep.net before the end of December. As ever, our local tech adept states that photos above 5MB in size tend to bounce back so keep your entries below that size.

Rules Refresher
1) Each participant may only send in one entry for a given month. You can send in multiple photos of the entry but only one will be used.
2) The entry can be a single model or single unit. The smaller the unit, the more detail in the photo so aim low.
3) The model can be from any game system. If it's particularly esoteric, we'd appreciate a covering note explaining what it is.
4) The entry must have been finished within that given month. You can't submit completed pieces from your back catalogue.
5) If you want us to include a link back to more of your work, we'd be delighted to do that.
